Portuguese Benfica has gained the first victory in Spartak Cup by outplaying English Tottenham with the 2:1 scores.

Seemingly, the English team was supposed to enjoy more preferable position, as yesterday they gained the strong-willed victory over Dynamo Kiev and earlier lost ground to Barcelona with the minimum score, than Benfica that was in the bottom of the tournament standings. However the Portuguese team started the game very vigorously and managed to aggrieve their opponents twice before the break.  Balde, the author of the first goal, received a pass from the field center, he outpaced a guard and sent the ball into the net past by the English goalkeeper, who ran outside the goal box. Several minutes later Romario, having played a "Give-and-Go" combination with his partner, pulled the ball to a guard. Aureliu Buta succeeded to be the first one to pick up the ball and stroke it into the far corner. In the second half Tottenham reinforced its playing, however "persuaders" managed only to narrow the gap before the final whistle, and not to save the game. The goal-seeking attack commenced from a right side pass, followed by a pass to Oduva, who was near the penalty area, and who succeeded to hit the target with the low shot. The Portuguese goalkeeper touched the ball, but failed to save his team – 1:2.
